Amistad on VHS tape from DreamWorks
In 1839, the slave ship Amistad set sail from Cuba to America. During the long voyage, Cinque led the slaves in an unprecedented uprising. They were subsequently held captive in Connecticut, and their release became the subject of heated debate. Freed slave Theodore Joadson wanted Cinque and the others exonerated and recruited property lawyer Roger Baldwin to assist him in his case. Eventually, John Quincy Adams also became an ally.
