On a rainy London night in 1946, the writer Maurice Bendrix happens upon Henry Miles, the husband of his former lover Sarah, who had abruptly ended their affair two years earlier. Bendrix's obsession with Sarah is rekindled; he succumbs to his jealousy and has her followed.
