A microchip, newly developed by Zorin Industries for the British government and capable of withstanding the electromagnetic radiation of a nuclear explosion, has fallen into the hands of the KGB. James Bond must find out how and why. His suspicions soon lead him to Max Zorin, the head of the big corporation, who is plotting to destroy his only competition in Silicon Valley by triggering a massive earthquake in San Francisco Bay.
