In a violent, near-apocalyptic Detroit, the evil corporation Omni Consumer Products receives a contract from the city government to privatize the police force. To test their crime-fighting cyborgs, the company engages street cop Alex Murphy in an armed confrontation with the criminal Boddicker so they can use his body as a vehicle for their untested RoboCop prototype. But when RoboCop learns of the company's nefarious plans, he turns against his masters.
