Vienna, circa 1900. Master baker Streussler's greatest wish is to see his daughter Nelly as a university student. With the help of his famous "Streusel-Torte" (Crumbly Cake), he manages to lure all sorts of helpers into his house for this endeavor. But Nelly has entirely different plans: She's in love with the chimney sweep Heinz, the son of a neighbor, with whom her father Streussler has been feuding for years. No wonder, then, that the grumpy confectioner does everything he can to end the relationship.
