When perpetually single, aging music manager Harry Sanborn and his latest girlfriend, Marin, arrive at his mother's beach house in the Hamptons, they discover that his mother, playwright Erica Barry, is also planning to spend the weekend there. Erica is outraged by the relationship and Harry's sexist behavior. However, when Harry suffers a heart attack and is ordered to bed rest by his doctor, he has no choice but to stay at the Barrys' house. Under the care of Erica and his doctor, a love triangle begins to develop.
