A Bright Shining Lie - The Hell of Vietnam on DVD

Something in his past prevents career soldier John Paul Vann from rising above the rank of colonel. He sees deployment to Vietnam as part of the U.S. Military Advisory Unit as a stepping stone to promotion. However, he disagrees with the way the war is being conducted and is forced to leave the military. As a civilian working with the army, he returns to Vietnam and begins to despise some South Vietnamese officers while assuming command of some U.S. troops and continuing his relationships with Vietnamese women.
