When Johnny is released from prison after being charged with forgery, he quickly finds a job as a short-order cook in a New York diner. After a brief fling with waitress Cora, he develops an attraction to Cora's friend and colleague, Frankie. Frankie initially resists Johnny's charms, but eventually gives in when her best friend Tim persuades her to give Johnny a chance.
